A Woman, A Part

(2016), a film by Elisabeth Subrin
Creative Consultant

An exhausted, workaholic actress, Anna Baskin, 44, abruptly extricates herself from a successful but mind-numbing TV role, returning to her past life in New York to reinvent herself. But despite the desire for transformation, she cannot find herself outside of her career. When an upsetting personal betrayal unexpectedly leads to the role of her life, she must confront the reality of her past relationships in order to clear a path forward. The intimate story of Anna and her friends Isaac and Kate become magnified by the film’s surrounding themes: gentrification, addiction, autoimmune disease, burnout, sexism in the film industry and 21st century marketing of the self.

World premiere January 31, 2016 at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
North American premiere June 19, 2016 at BAMcinemafest.

Soggy Glasses

(2014-2016), by Dynasty Handbag/Jibz Cameron
Co-director and dramaturge

Soggy Glasses, A Homo’s Odyssey is a feminist, comedic, fanny-packed, monomythic hero-journey. Using Homer’sOdyssey as both dramaturgical framework and toilet paper, Dynasty Handbag recasts the masculine allegory of returning home in a feminist context, on a voyage though her extremities, heart, mind, bowels and artist colon-y. Using voiceovers, video interaction, and a giant plush “hero” sandwich, Dynasty Handbag employs female physical and spiritual bodies as the terrain for her journey home, in an ultimate Homeric search for her true nature, and she will most likely fail.

We Are Dorothys

Written and performed by Jibz Cameron and Sacha Yanow
The Kitchen, NYC as part of Emily Roysdon’s A Gay Bar Called Everywhere
2011

An homage to the first openly lesbian Hollywood film director Dorothy Arzner and pre-code lesbian Hollywood “sewing circles”, involving the inspired invention of the boom mic and shared creativity and communication between women/queer artists. Jibz and I both abstractly morph from Dorothy into manifestations of her leading ladies. (Clara Bow and Lucille Ball).
